August Special with Robin Pope Safaris
Hello there!
Robin Pope Safaris are offering an attracctive three night package to
their camps in the South Luangwa
See below:
August Special
Nkwali Camp, South Luangwa
3 nights - US$470pp
Experience South Luangwa superb game viewing for US$470pp
Overlooking the South Luangwa National Park, Nkwali is surrounded by
superb game viewing, with a beautiful area of ebony woodland and open
grasslands. This area is particularly good for elephants and
Thornicroft giraffe (an endemic species). Elephants also regularly
cross the Luangwa, seen from the bar, or come to the waterhole near
the thatched dining room.
The six rooms all look out over the river and have open air bathrooms.
Depending on your arrival time in the day you will enjoy a lunch
looking out over the lagoon to the back of Nkwali or, if in the
afternoon, tea and then an afternoon and night game drive.
The chalets are large, cool and spacious, with a great view of the
river. The front of the room is open during the day and then closed by
grill doors at night. The ensuite bathroom has double sinks and
showers, which are open to the skies. The bar area, right on the edge
of the Luangwa banks, is built around a huge ebony tree with fantastic
views of the river and across to the park. The open deck is wonderful
for moonlit dinners. The dining room is a simple thatched structure by
the lagoon but we rarely eat meals there - they are served under the
trees by the lagoon or the river, on the deck, or in the bush!
* Only applies to new bookings
* Includes: accommodation, full board, all game viewing activities -
game drives and walks, transfers to/from Mfuwe Airport
* Excludes: LCCF, bar & park fees
Take this single chance to visit enjoy the extensive renovations of
Nkwali for a very special rate during August.

Update on Interesting Titbits on the Victoria Fall
Our recent article, ‘Interesting Titbits on the Victoria Falls’, we forgot say something about Zambezi Airlines, a local airline that flies to Livingstone from the capital city Lusaka
Budgettravel.com’s recent article mentions flight into Livingstone’s International Airport in Zambia as being only available from Johannesburg, South Africa. It further states that British Airways flies thrice weekly (from $290 round trip)
Yet we feel for tourists visiting Zambia, Zambezi Airlines does fly to most destinations within the country and beyond it
And we can proudly add that in addition to the international carriers mentioned above, Zambezi Airlines should be no exception for tourists seeking to explore Zambia, including the South Luangwa National Park and the northern circuit

Sandys Creations Lodge Enters the Market
There is quite a lot of activity going on on the market right now in Zambia. New players are emerging.
A few months ago, we heard The Golden Bridge Hotel would be opening, with something over a hundred rooms.
And today, we read in The Post that Sandys Creations are entering the local market with only 37 rooms, promising 'African authenticity with an ethnic feel.'
In addition to that, the property is said to include 5 meeting rooms, the largest of which accommodates 500 delegates

Air Namibia will operate five flights a week from Windhoek to Lusaka, Zambia, via Johannesburg. The sector between Johannesburg and Lusaka will be done in codeshare with Zambezi Airlines. Days of operating are: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
Depart Windhoek 08h10 arrive Johannesburg 09h55
Depart Johannesburg 11h40 arrive Lusaka 13h40
Depart Lusaka 14h40 arrive Johannesburg 16h40
That’s good news for an airline seeking to make a stronger footprint on the aviation industy in Africa and the region
And we are gald that is coming at a time when lower economic activity could mean many businesses scaling down on their operations in the region.

Total Quandary Over ICAO, Zambian Government Over Issues of Licensing
Continued haggling and misunderstandings by regulatory authorities may affect your travel may affect travel plans to Zambia. That is if events brewing in the background are anything to go by.
Some time in July, the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) carried out an audit of Zambia’s air traffic.
At the end of the inspection, they seem to have noticed that Zambia needed an Aviation Operator Certificate (which it should be assumed is issued by the ICAO) to conform with new guidelines that had been issued by the ICAO.
For some reason, the ICAO’s announcement prompted unease from the European Association of Travel agents, putting them in an awkward position as far as their clients’ safety was concerned.
Zambezi Airlines Limited, one of the country’s new players on the aviation scene, has stepped in to reassure travelers that all is well.
“Like all international Airlines, Zambezi Airlines does not compromise on safety and regards safety as a matter of prime concern. The aircraft used for international operations are new generation state of the art Boeing 737-500 aircraft which are maintained to the highest aviation standards using maintenance providers certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)and the FAA. The aircraft are leased from the second largest lessor in the industry, GECAS.,” says Cornwell Muleya, the airlines CEO, in a statement posted on Advancing Travel To Africa (ATTA), a trade group
we thought it would be nice to share the goings on on the local scene with our readers and followers!
Zambia is your home away from home. See you soon

Believe you me, Zambezi Airlines are here to make you smile:-)
As Zambia turns 45, very few corporate houses, if any, would want to be left out in cashing-in on the mass buying driven by the Independence Day, or week, if you like.
Just in case you are reading here,
are offering 45% their regular rates to Johannesburg: the special return fare pegged at a mere K650,000 (USD145 at K4,550 to the dollar)*
Of course, as is the case with all special deals, there is some information in small print (The ‘Terms & Conditions"’ clause which we hope to clarify with the airline as soon as possible.
That comes with what the airline is calling 'an ‘unbeatable weight allowance of 32kg in economy.
Good luck!

Travel Zambia: Informative Guide to Zambia
You could call this Zambia's Conde Nast Traveller and I won't pick a fight with you.
Packed with information ranging from the best trails for bush walks to Zambia's attractions such as the magnificent Victoria Falls, Travel Zambia does what most have been hoping to see on the local seen in terms of a detailed information guide.
Issues such as the Lusaka Lowdown and Lusaka happening need not worry as their customer target seems far beyond being touched by Travel Zambia: TZ is targeted at the seasoned international traveller who sees all things Zambian as not only new, but also interesting and worth relishing in.
There is a section, for example, dedicated to restoring the rhino population, a project currently led by Claire Lewis.
Travel Zambia is a welcome publication as it informs, advises and enlightens. The contributors' list reads like a who's who of the travel industry, ranging from Anne Devereux to Chris McIntyre
Look around for it in Lusaka

A Season of Rain
We have been experiencing rains so heavy some parts of the roads in the Southern Province have been washed away.
Luckily, our Chinese partners have been so helpful to the point that by January 2, 2008, they had done more than half of the road. Supplies that keep the world running (petrol and mealie meal in some parts), at least by our standards here, went completely out of stock.
Maize is our staple food, and if it continues pounding, a good harvest will be severely threatened.
See you
